HRP Honda rider Karl Muggeridge made himself a present one day after his 38th Birthday at the season opener of the International German Championship (IDM) and scored pole position for tomorrow’s two races here at Lausitzring German.
Muggas lapped the track with 1:39,394 and even improved last years best time set by Martin Bauer by two tenths.
Second fastest was new Yamaha Germany rider Matej Smrz who set his time in the morning qualifying but wasn’t able to improve in the afternoon.
BMW rider and newcomer Australian Troy Herfoss landed spot three on tomorrow’s grid followed closely by BMW rider Michael Ranseder who will complete the front row.
Muggas comments:
The bike is working pretty good. The biggest concern of them team is the cold weather, which reflects on the tyre durability, they tend to tear in the cold.
This morning it was a bit unsure how we go and the way the bike was working. So they changed the bike and it was handling better and was easier on the tyre. I was able to go a bit quicker than this morning because of the handling and the warmer temperatures. I did one lap, which was pretty good and tried another one again straight after on which I made a small mistake that cost a little bit of time, but anyway it was enough to be fastest. We think we are in pretty good shape for tomorrow, it’s a long race, both of them, so we just see how we go.
